International & Domestic Transportation
Shipping radioactive material and spent nuclear fuel is complex and requires expert timing and coordination in order to be conducted smoothly and securely. STS offers the only turnkey solution for ensuring these transportation events occur without incident.
We can coordinate trucks, planes, ocean vessels, and trains, as well as multimodal transfers, material handling equipment, regulatory compliance, and all of the personnel involved in the process to ensure an incident free transportation event.
Security Coordination
For high profile shipment, spent nuclear fuel, and highway route controlled quantities we have a large network of law enforcement and private security contacts that we can leverage to coordinate seamless security coverage from coast to coast in the continental U.S.
For international shipments we have worked with foreign government points of contact in over 30 countries to arrange for overseas security escorts to comply with national and international regulations.
Regulatory Compliance
We live in the world of radioactive material and nuclear regulations, and not all of our prospective clients do.
We can offer consulting services to work with the regulatory bodies, and with the client to evaluate the client’s needs and the regulations that apply, and then ensure that there are no gaps in compliance.
Procedure reviews/writing
Our extensive operational and hands-on experience makes us a uniquely qualified to assist our clients to write operating procedures, health and safety procedures, and quality assurance procedures.
Engineering
We offer engineering design services and maintain a full suite of computer aided design (CAD) software for generating fabrication-ready drawings. Our experience working in nuclear facilities all around the world gives us the understanding of the unique needs of nuclear operators to provide custom engineered tooling and parts to solve complex problems.
Any engineering services requiring a certified engineer, or a quality assurance program can be managed by STS, but we will need to outsource the final drawings and certifications to a qualified facility.
Radioactive material handling
We are trained in advanced radioactive material handling safety and working in highly contaminated environments. STS personnel have successfully and safely manipulated radiation emitting sources exceeding 100,000 curies as well as worked in contaminated environments with more than 1 million dpm on surfaces.

Cask Operations
STS staff have the knowledge and experience to perform any operation necessary within the scope of a nuclear project.
STS personnel have been responsible for many varied tasks ranging from loading/unloading highly radioactive nuclear material from transport packages, to performing underwater fuel inspections to disassembling reactor systems for maintenance.
Package licensing and validation
We are capable of applying for competent authority validations and package licensing for international transportation of Type B radioactive material packages.
STS will work directly with foreign and domestic governmental agencies to obtain licenses and permits prior to an international transportation event.
Training
We currently provide training instructors in the field of transportation security on behalf of the U.S. DOE’s NNSA who teach security concepts accepted by the international community.
STS training instructors have been utilized by the NNSA to conduct training for audiences ranging from nuclear regulators to local police in over 50 countries.
